It is an island and for years they just let cats go wild. Only in the past 10 years or so have they made an effort to control the animal population. But in Key West the most amazing thing is that 20-30% of cats have an extra paw - so instead of five up front they will have six (and even rarer even seven sometimes). Bruce and I have a soft spot for them so we did take pictures instead of bringing one home.
